Suitable testing methods
Culture and isolation; closely aligned to the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) method for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, or similar.
Reporting format

Sensitive or Resistant, Disc concentration and Zone Diameter (mm). The authorised report will be published electronically. This will show intended results and participant results. Results from other participants will also be present when several Lab Codes are participating.

Sample Type

0.1 mL containing microorganism(s) freeze dried in glass vials. Samples contain a pure organism. The panel of samples are for Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing (AST) using normal routine procedures where participants make their own choice of method to determine the AST results. The samples contain a pure bacterial organism that is Gram negative or positive. The isolates are derived from either reference or field strains.
Participants will be given the identity of the microorganism, Gram status and disease area with range of antibiotics to be tested for example:

Gram Positive Mastitis AST - AMC2/1, AMP10, CL30, N30, NV30, P1, TE10, TY30
Gram Negative Enteric AST - AMC20/10, AMP10, APR15, ENR5, N10, SH25, SXT25, TE10
Gram Negative Respiratory AST - AMC20/10, AMP10, CPD10, EFT30, ENR5, FFC30, TE10, SXT25
