Biological reagents - Bovine viral diarrhoea

Online Catalgoue

Bovine viral diarrhoea is a viral disease of cattle and other ruminants caused by the Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV), which is a member of the pestivirus genus.

There are four recognised species within the pestivirus genus: BVDV-1, BVDV-2, Border Disease Virus (BDV) of sheep and Classical Swine Fever Virus (CSFV).

A pool of two non-competing monoclonal antibodies, which have reacted with all pestiviruses tested at APHA to date, including BVD, CSF and BD viruses, as well as uncharacterised viruses from other ruminants. They are suitable for indirect labelling techniques for the detection of pestivirus antigens in cell cultures and tissue sections. Store at 4°C.

Ruminant pestiviruses can be divided into BVDV1, BVDV2 and BDV. No single monoclonal antibody binds specifically to all three subtypes but the above panel taken together will recognise most strains and indicate to which subtype they belong. None of these monoclonal antibodies bind to the CSF virus, so the panel may be used in conjunction with RAE0242 or RAE0826 for the differentiation of BVD/BD and CSF isolates from pigs, as recommended by the European Community. Store at 4°C.

Further discriminatory mAbs are available on request.
