Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES)
The Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES) is a web-based service for the application for, and issuing of, Intra Trade Animal Health Certificates (ITAHCs) and Common Veterinary Entry Documents(CVEDs) for intra-Union trade and Third Country import trade in live animals, their products and germplasm. TRACES is the system used for notifying Member States of movements of live animals, germplasm and certain other commodities into or through their territories.
TRACES helps competent authorities in each Member State to meet the needs of their traders and their European Union (EU) animal and public health obligations.
As a guide, the EU Commission have issued online training manuals which demonstrate how each module of TRACES works. The training manual can be accessed by:
- Signing up to the EU Commission Europa website and accessing the TRACES toolkit.
- Obtaining a TRACES user account and accessing the training manuals via the TRACES toolkit in the information link.
- Requesting a copy of the relevant training manual from the Centre for International Trade - Carlisle.
Operational, veterinary and system development support – economic operators should seek support through their local Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) Office.
Further information for using TRACES to trade in animals and animal products can be found on GOV.UK.
See the Official EU TRACES website.
See also the guidance on creating Export Health Certification on TRACES for exports outside the EU.
The support document pages include notes for guidance for economic operators and Official Veterinarians, checklists, and model owner’s declarations.
Select the species or commodity to be exported to other EU Member States from the list below. From here you will be able to access all the necessary support documentation required to complete the relevant Intra Trade Animal Health Certificate (ITAHC).
