Testing for exclusion of notifiable diseases
Testing is available for notifiable avian disease in poultry (avian influenza and Newcastle disease) and West Nile virus in horses.
APHA can test for exclusion where the private veterinary surgeon (PVS) considers the disease is very low on their differential diagnosis list.
APHA will only begin an official investigation and impose restrictions if test results suggest the disease is present.
The pages below explain how an PVS should proceed if they wish to carry out testing for this disease without an APHA investigation taking place.
